Ownership and Funding
Who publishes NEWS ANALYSIS
NEWS ANALYSIS is an independently owned and operated international news publication. It is not part of a media group, it is not owned by a political organisation, and no advertiser, vendor or outside party holds a stake in it or a say in what it publishes.
This page exists because ownership is one of the few things a reader genuinely cannot verify from the outside. If you are trying to work out whose interests a publication serves, the honest answer should be available without asking.
How we are funded
Our costs are covered by advertising displayed on the site. We do not charge for access, we do not operate a subscription, and we do not run a membership scheme. There is no paywall, and there is no tier of content reserved for paying readers.
Advertising is sold as inventory on the page. Advertisers buy placement; they do not buy coverage, influence over coverage, or advance sight of articles. The terms are described on our Advertise page.
The separation we maintain
Commercial arrangements have no bearing on editorial decisions. Nobody involved in selling advertising selects, reviews, approves or vetoes an article. An advertiser can be the subject of critical coverage on this site, and being an advertiser confers no protection from it.
We do not publish paid articles presented as journalism. If commercial material ever appears on this site it will be labelled so that no reader could mistake it for reporting. We do not accept payment to publish, to remove, or to alter an article, and we do not accept payment for a link inside editorial text.
Affiliate arrangements
Where an article contains a commercial link that could earn us a commission, that is disclosed in the article. Commission does not determine what we recommend or how we describe a product. If we would not have mentioned something without the commission, we do not mention it.
Gifts, travel and access
We do not accept paid travel, accommodation or hospitality from organisations we cover. Where a product is supplied for review, we say so in the article, and supply confers no right of approval over what we write.
Who writes here
Articles are produced by our editorial team and published under our own byline rather than syndicated from a wire service. Our Editorial Standards page describes how stories are chosen, sourced and reviewed before publication, and our Fact Checking page describes the verification each article goes through.
Our use of technology
We use software tools in producing this publication, as most modern newsrooms do, including for research, drafting assistance and illustration. Editorial responsibility rests with us. Every article is subject to the sourcing and verification requirements set out on our Editorial Standards and Fact Checking pages, and the standard applied does not change according to which tools were involved in producing a draft. Images are illustrative unless a caption says otherwise.
Conflicts of interest
Where we have an interest that a reasonable reader might consider relevant to a story, we disclose it in that story. Where an interest would prevent us from covering something fairly, we do not cover it.
Questions
If something about our ownership, funding or commercial arrangements is unclear, ask us through our Contact page. We would rather answer a direct question than have a reader guess.
