Prime Minister Narendra Modi opened Chinmaya Mission’s 75-year global meeting on October 23 by talking with an AI hologram of its founder, who died in 1993.

The avatar blessed him and said India was with him. He then told the hall to unite against divisive forces he did not name, and to tie the Mission’s next quarter-century to a developed India by 2047.

The Holobot Called Him Narendra

The Chinmaya Amrit Mahotsav Global Sammelan opened at 11 AM at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi, with over 9,000 people in the room and sessions booked through October 25. Chinmaya Mission asked the prime minister to inaugurate a holographic avatar of Swami Chinmayananda, which the Prime Minister’s Office later described as a Holobot interaction with Revered Gurudev that, Modi said, put him back in Vadodara.

On stage the figure answered as if it remembered February 1993. It said he had come to invite it to the Chicago centenary of the Parliament of the World’s Religions, and that it had been too old and sick then to carry that brief, so Hindu youth would have to do the work. It compared Sanatan Dharma to an ancient temple of truth whose foundation was strong and whose pillars had been neglected for centuries, and it said no one should sit idle hoping an old man would perform a miracle.

Then it looked at the man from that 1993 room and congratulated him for becoming prime minister of India.

I convey the blessings of all the sages to you. Prime Minister, remember that the person at the top is alone. I have asked the devotees to give you Shrikhand as Prasad. Please eat it. Don’t say you are fasting today. India is with you, Narendra Modi.

Modi said the talk threw him 33 years back, and that for a moment he felt he was again in the swami’s physical presence. “For me, this is a very emotional experience,” he said, thanking the Mission for building the tribute.

The government clip that moved after the session is that blessing, not the later unity sentence. A projection was asked to remember a private meeting, praise a public record, and tell a sitting prime minister that the country stands with him. The Mission presented the holobot as a way for seekers to meet Gurudev’s voice. The politics sat in the script, which had already decided that India was with him before he asked the hall to close ranks.

He Died in San Diego Before the Chicago Stage

Modi had gone to Vadodara in early 1993, in his own telling in February or March, to invite Chinmayananda to Chicago for the centenary of the Parliament of the World’s Religions, marking 100 years after Swami Vivekananda’s address there. The swami accepted, worked the American circuit, and died in San Diego on August 3, weeks before the gathering. Modi was in Chicago on September 11 and felt the empty seat.

FROM VADODARA TO BHARAT MANDAPAM

  1. Early 1993: Modi meets Chinmayananda in Vadodara and invites him to the Chicago centenary.
  2. August 3, 1993: Chinmayananda dies in San Diego while the American meetings are still being prepared.
  3. September 11, 1993: The Chicago centenary goes ahead; Modi attends and registers the absence.
  4. 2015: A commemorative coin is issued around Chinmayananda’s birth centenary, Modi told the hall.
  5. October 23, 2026: A holobot of the swami talks with the prime minister at Bharat Mandapam.

Their last conversation, Modi said, was about building youth power and, through it, a strong and capable India. A few years after that meeting he became chief minister of Gujarat, and he told the sammelan he has now completed 25 years of continuous service as a head of government, with the nation’s youth still at the centre of his policies.

Chinmayananda began public teaching with a Jnana Yajna at a Pune temple in 1951, the year the Mission now uses as the start of its 75-year clock. His guru, Swami Sivananda, had told him to go and roar like a lion. He taught the Gita in halls, launched the Gita Gyana Yagna to take Vedanta to people who would not come to an ashram, and ran a radio programme called Art of Man Making. Modi also recalled that he gave the first donation toward Eknath Ranade’s Vivekananda Rock Memorial in the sea at Kanyakumari, a monument the prime minister said now draws millions.

What the Prime Minister Asked the Hall

After the holobot sat down, in a manner of speaking, Modi gave the Mission three jobs, and he said the country had to become more proactive about all three. In the unite society against divisive forces passage of the official English rendering, he added self-reliance and the 2047 target in the same breath.

THREE JOBS FOR THE ROOM

  • Unity: Unite society against the forces that seek to divide it.
  • Self-reliance: Make citizens aware of self-reliance, and inspired toward it.
  • 2047: Connect every person to the resolve of a developed India by 2047.

He said Chinmayananda had set his goals against the problems of his own time, and that new social ills had appeared in the decades since. He called the Mission a thought founded by a sage, and said millions of its youth already work as cultural brand ambassadors, carrying Indian values to a new generation. The Vedic line he quoted, “Vayam Rashtre Jagriyama Purohitah,” was an instruction to stay awake in the nation, and he used it to argue that spiritual work and national work were the same duty.

He then lined the Mission up with his own file. The National Education Policy, he said, now mixes Indian knowledge traditions, education in the mother tongue, modern science and new technology, which he presented as the academic form of Chinmayananda’s old demand that philosophy leave the library. Heritage, in this telling, had already been pulled out of neglect: Kashi Vishwanath Dham, the Shri Ram Temple in Ayodhya, Mahakal Mahalok in Ujjain, Kedarnath and Badrinath, plus cultural sites added to the UNESCO World Heritage list. In the past 12 years, he said, India had brought back more than 650 ancient idols that used to be sold abroad without a fight.

Forty Thousand Kilometres and 100 Schools

The Delhi meeting is the close of a year-long 75th programme that the Prime Minister’s Office had already sketched the day before he arrived. 15 young members of Chinmaya Yuva Kendra had spent about 300 days on the Chinmaya Amrit Yatra, covering 40,000 km and, Modi said, reaching over one lakh young people. He congratulated that team by name of effort, not of persons, and treated the mileage as proof that the Mission’s youth wing can still move like a campaign.

The same year also saw mass havans, the consecration of the Maa Soundarya Chinmayi Temple in Tripura, and Gita Panchamrit, built around five selected verses. The Mission billed the Delhi gathering as a reunion of devotees from over 25 countries, with Vedic chanting, a musical, a conclave on non-dualism, and an exhibition of the Chinmaya experience. Modi added a number the preview note had not stressed: over 100 Chinmaya educational institutions, he said, now give students modern schooling and Indian values at the same desk.

That is a ready-made delivery system. A global teaching order with schools, a youth wing that has just walked the country, and a new talking image of the founder is not a guest list. It is a network being told that its centenary road and the state’s 2047 road are the same road.

The Street Fight He Did Not Name

He never said Special Intensive Revision, and he never said Election Commission. The three jobs still landed on a Friday when the argument over the voter list was already in the street.

BJP figures drawn from Election Commission data put the names removed in the Special Intensive Revision at about 130 million. Congress uses the same order of magnitude and calls the exercise vote theft, and it has demanded that Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar go and that SIR be stopped. Union Home Minister Amit Shah has accused the Congress of using opposition to SIR as cover to protect illegal infiltrators. BJP leaders have attacked the protests as a bid to spread anarchy through street agitation.

Opposition parties marched in Delhi in mid-October toward the Supreme Court. Farmer unions and groups campaigning against SIR had called protests on the same Friday the holobot spoke. The prime minister’s answer, in a hall of saints and seekers, was a call to unite against unnamed dividers and to get on with self-reliance and 2047.

The holobot had already told him the person at the top is alone, and that India was with him. He did not have to name the people outside the hall. The sentence did that work without a proper noun.

Chinmaya’s Next 25 Years Meet 2047

In 2047, Modi said, India will complete 100 years of independence, and around that same stretch Chinmaya Mission will be moving toward its own centenary. “The centenary journey of the Chinmaya Mission and the journey of a Viksit Bharat will move forward together,” he said. He told the Mission’s acharyas, seekers and volunteers that they had Gurudev’s legacy and decades of practice, and that he trusted them to spend both on a developed India.

WHAT HE TIED TO THE MISSION

  • The shrines: Kashi Vishwanath Dham, the Shri Ram Temple in Ayodhya, Mahakal Mahalok in Ujjain, Kedarnath and Badrinath, presented as a single restoration file.
  • The schools: Over 100 Chinmaya institutions, described as mixing modern classes with Indian values.
  • The idols: More than 650 antiquities returned in 12 years, set against years when stolen images were sold abroad.
  • The date: 2047 for the republic, and the Mission’s hundred-year mark in the same period, assigned as one journey.

International Yoga Day, in this telling, is the global form of the work Chinmayananda did when he took Vedanta out of India. Pride in heritage, and freedom from what Modi called a mentality of slavery, were offered as proof that the country is now on the path those sages wanted. The holobot had already said the fallen pillars were standing again. The speech supplied the place names.

The sammelan continues through October 25. Chinmaya Mission now has a public, queryable image of its founder, and the prime minister has told that room that the Mission’s centenary road and the 2047 state target run together.
