Getting in touch
We read everything that arrives. NEWS ANALYSIS is a small operation covering international general news, so we cannot always reply individually, but every message is looked at by a person and the ones that need action get it.
The fastest way to reach us is by email. Please put the reason for writing at the start of your subject line, because it decides how quickly your message reaches the right place.
Corrections and accuracy
If you believe something we published is wrong, this is the most important category of message we receive and we treat it as such. Please include the article title or web address, the specific passage you are questioning, and what you believe the correct position to be. If you can point us to the underlying source, that speeds things up considerably.
We will check the claim against the original material rather than against our own article. If we got it wrong, we will correct it and record what changed, following the process on our Corrections page. If we conclude the article was right, we will tell you why rather than simply declining.
Story tips and information
If you have information you believe is in the public interest, we want to hear about it. Useful tips usually include what happened, when, and how you came to know it. Documents, filings, data sets and transcripts are far more valuable to us than characterisations, because we can verify them.
Please tell us plainly whether you are willing to be named. We will not identify a source who has asked not to be identified. We also will not promise anonymity before we understand what is being offered, because a promise we cannot keep is worse than no promise.
We cannot guarantee that a tip will become an article. Most do not, usually because we cannot independently verify the central claim to the standard set out on our Fact Checking page.
Press releases and announcements
You are welcome to send them, and we do read them. We should be honest about the odds: we publish very few stories that originate from a release, and when we do, we go to the underlying filing, product, study or document rather than reproducing the announcement. A release that links to the primary material is much more likely to be useful to us than one that does not.
We do not publish sponsored content presented as editorial, and we do not accept payment for coverage. If that is what you are looking for, our Advertise page describes what we actually offer.
Rights and permissions
For permission to republish or quote at length, write to us and describe what you want to use and where. For copyright complaints, our DMCA page sets out the formal process and the information a valid notice has to contain, which is a narrower and more specific requirement than a general email.
Advertising and commercial enquiries
Commercial questions are handled separately from editorial, which is deliberate. Our Advertise page explains the formats available and the boundary we maintain between advertising and coverage. Sending a commercial enquiry to the editorial address will only slow it down.
Privacy of your message
Messages you send us are held and used for the purpose of responding and, where relevant, of reporting. We do not add correspondents to a marketing list. Our Privacy Policy sets out how we handle personal information generally, including what we keep and for how long.
What we cannot help with
We are a news publication, not an agency or an intermediary. We cannot intervene in disputes with companies we have written about, arrange introductions, or provide legal, financial or medical advice. Where a story mentions an organisation, we are not able to pass messages to it on your behalf.
