Eicher Capacity Bets and Waaree Margin Reality Shape July 30 Focus

Soft open meets packed earnings: Eicher volumes and Andhra greenfield, Waaree order book versus thinner margins.

GIFT Nifty futures pointed the Nifty 50 toward an 82-point lower open on Thursday as more than 100 companies prepared to report Q1 FY27 numbers. Eicher Motors, Waaree Energies, PNB, NBCC and a cluster of Vedanta entities already supplied the bulk of the overnight news that will set trading tone.

The session is crowded. Bajaj Finance, Tata Steel, Mahindra & Mahindra, Swiggy and others still print. Yet the second-order story sits in the capacity cheques, foreign-currency funding lines and overseas project wins that stretch well past this quarter.

Royal Enfield Volumes Pay for a New Plant

Eicher Motors delivered its strongest first-quarter set on record. Consolidated revenue from operations hit ₹6,632 crore, up 32% from ₹5,042 crore a year earlier. Profit after tax rose 21% to ₹1,463 crore.

Royal Enfield shipped 332,940 motorcycles, its highest-ever quarterly total and a 27% jump from 261,326 units. VE Commercial Vehicles added its own best-ever Q1 with 24,815 vehicles, up 14.8%.

Metric Q1 FY27 Q1 FY26 Change
Revenue from operations ₹6,632 cr ₹5,042 cr +32%
PAT ₹1,463 cr ₹1,205 cr +21%
Royal Enfield sales 332,940 units 261,326 units +27%
VECV sales 24,815 units 21,610 units +14.8%

The board cleared ₹1,225 crore for Phase I of a greenfield motorcycle plant in Tada, Andhra Pradesh. The full programme is pegged at ₹2,500 crore. At full utilisation the new site can add additional 4.5 lakh motorcycles per year, with completion targeted in FY 2029-30 subject to demand.

B. Govindarajan, Managing Director of Eicher Motors, called the quarter historic: deliveries of the Flying Flea C6 electric began and the Bullet 650 launched. The capacity cheque converts a volume beat into multi-year headroom.

Waaree Grows Fast, Margins Thin Out

Waaree Energies posted consolidated revenue of ₹7,931.79 crore, up 79.22% year-on-year. Net profit rose a more modest 15.39% to ₹891.87 crore. Operating EBITDA climbed 44.38% to ₹1,439.92 crore, yet the margin slipped to 18.15% from 22.53%.

  • Module production: 3.24 GW, +41.51% YoY
  • New orders in the quarter: roughly ₹16,000 crore
  • Total order book: about ₹61,500 crore
  • FY27 operating EBITDA guidance: ₹7,000-7,700 crore reaffirmed

Jignesh Rathod, Whole Time Director and CEO, pointed to the record order book of about ₹61,500 crore and the early contribution from newer businesses under the “Waaree 2.0” push into storage, power infrastructure and global markets.

Shares still fell around 6% in early trade. Traders on X and brokerage notes flagged the margin compression and the fact that profit growth lagged the revenue surge once last year’s tax benefits faded. The 10 GW cell facility at Unn remains on track for the current year; automated BESS container lines have started in Gujarat. That pipeline matters more than one margin print, especially against India’s deferred solar cell sourcing timeline.

We are now witnessing the early outcomes of this strategy. While our core solar manufacturing business continues to perform strongly, our newer businesses are beginning to contribute meaningfully to revenue.

Rathod made the case for diversification in the official release. Street pricing showed it wants proof on returns first.

Funding Lines and Overseas Contracts

Three public-sector and infrastructure names supplied deal news rather than pure earnings.

Punjab National Bank board approved a Medium-Term Note programme of up to USD 1.5 billion. Bonds will be issued through the PNB IFSC Banking Unit in GIFT City. The route gives the lender a cleaner path to foreign-currency funds without clogging domestic balance-sheet constraints.

NBCC (India) signed a formal agreement with the Government of Seychelles for the first phase of the Île Aurore Housing Development Project. The work covers 1,008 affordable housing units in Seychelles, roads, utilities and a sewage plant. Funding comes from a USD 75 million slice of India’s USD 175 million Special Economic Package via EXIM Bank. Completion is eyed for 2029; the master plan ultimately targets at least 1,800 units.

GAIL (India) and Rashtriya Chemicals and Fertilisers signed an MoU for a gas-based fertiliser project in Maharashtra’s Vidarbha region. Proposed urea capacity is 1.27 million metric tonnes per annum, to be housed in a special purpose vehicle. The corridor sits along GAIL’s existing pipeline network.

None of these prints a quarterly EPS beat. Each extends a multi-year funding or project runway.

Vedanta’s Split Prints Tell Different Stories

Vedanta’s demerged entities produced a mixed tape.

Entity Q1 FY27 PAT Revenue Note
Vedanta Iron and Steel ₹122 crore profit ₹3,662 crore (+18%) Turnaround from ₹142 crore loss; higher volumes and prices
Vedanta Power ₹449 crore loss ₹1,844 crore (+6%) Maiden standalone listed quarter; prior year profit ₹75 crore

Vedanta Iron and Steel cited record pig-iron output of 291 kilotonnes and iron-ore production of 2.6 million dry metric tonnes. CEO Pankaj Kumar Sharma credited efficiencies and value-added products. Vedanta Power CEO Rajinder Singh Ahuja called the first listed quarter a milestone on revenue and power sales even as the bottom line swung to a loss.

Aluminium-metal production updates earlier in the month had shown record quarterly output. Investors are still sorting which demerged slice carries the cleaner growth story.

Smaller Export Wins and the Earnings Still Due

Hirect (Hind Rectifiers) received its first order from the United States for traction motor assemblies, with delivery scheduled in FY27. The win is modest in absolute size but opens a new geography for a power-electronics supplier long tied to domestic railways.

Vikran Engineering commissioned the 132 kV Miao-Namsai transmission line in Arunachal Pradesh. Acme Solar Holdings reported PAT of ₹235 crore, up 79.9%, on revenue of ₹954 crore (+63.3%), helped by higher irradiation and 2.3 GWh of new BESS capacity.

The larger names still on the calendar keep the session live: Tata Steel, Bajaj Finance, Mahindra & Mahindra, Torrent Pharma, Hyundai Motor India, IRFC, Mankind Pharma, Swiggy, Mazagon Dock, Exide, LIC Housing Finance and Gillette India. Soft futures leave little room for misses.

Capacity Cheques Outlast the Open

A lower open and a dense results slate will dominate the screens. The lasting moves sit elsewhere. Eicher is writing a multi-year production envelope in Andhra Pradesh. Waaree is stacking cells, BESS containers and overseas orders even while margins reset. PNB is building a GIFT City FX pipeline. NBCC has a USD 75 million housing foothold in the Indian Ocean. GAIL and RCF are sketching a new urea plant on an existing gas corridor.

Those decisions convert one Thursday’s focus list into the capacity, funding and export base that will still matter when the next quarter’s numbers arrive.
