I love to sing, but in my day-to-day life, there’s not always an opportunity to show my vocal skills (and it would be super weird to break out into song in the middle of the mall). I decided to see if there were any tools or apps that I could use to get my singing fix when I felt like I needed it, and I found a website that listed the top 10 karaoke apps and I thought, sure, I’ll try these out. I’m so excited that I did because there are some really amazing apps that have reminded me why I love singing so much. I’ll add a link to the website so you can go take a look at those apps too.
But, instead of just sharing the apps that I liked, I thought it would be even more interesting to share with you the different kinds of karaoke apps that AppGrooves offers on their list (and the different kinds I’ve enjoyed playing around with) so you can decide which ones you might like to explore yourself. These are the two categories I’ve added below.
- Music Search
It can be tough to find a good karaoke app with all the features you want. Being able to search for the songs you want to sing enables you to have a great time and make every event you go to so much more fun.
Apps: Karaoke, KaraFun
Karaoke lets you add special effects to every song you sing, plus read the lyrics on your phone. You can choose from any genre that fits your mood, whether it’s rock, pop, or even songs from other countries. And, if you prefer newer songs, that’s perfectly fine too because there are songs from artists like Ed Sheeran and Adele. There is a premium option that gives you more content, but you may not want to pay to use the app; however, the app is still functional without paying for premium so buying the VIP membership is up to you.
KaraFun is great because it allows you to access tons of your favorite songs and sing karaoke online or offline. All you have to do is sync the songs you want to perform and then you can access your downloads later. There are more than one thousand songs you can choose from in addition to custom playlists. Just note that, according to reviews, some users with older devices have found that songs take a while to load if they don’t have their phone fully updated, so you may want to do that before downloading this app.
- Record, Edit & Share Features
Customizing your karaoke performance with background audio and voice and video recording while you rock out can make singing your favorite songs even more enjoyable. All you have to do is sing along into your device’s microphone, edit your recordings, and share them with your friends on social media.
Apps: Smule, StarMaker, StarMaker lite
Smule has a really wide array of track options for you to sing along with, including new hits, old karaoke favorites, and Disney and musical numbers. You can even join up with your friends to sing duets using the app; something I’ve found to be really fun at a karaoke party. There are also on-screen pitch level and lyric tools to help you rack up enough points to beat your friends (because who doesn’t like winning?). Keep in mind that you only get one free song to sing and, after that, you will have to buy the subscription in order to enjoy the full music library.
What makes StarMaker unique is its high-quality video and audio recording tools and the expansive selection of video filters and voice effects for you to choose from. As you sing, song selections are tailored to your music taste, which makes it easier than ever to find the perfect karaoke set list. And, if you’re shy, you can choose to sing just the chorus of a song instead of the full thing. It is important to note that StarMaker operates using high-quality recording software, so there may occasionally be sound distortion on your recordings if your phone settings are not right for the app.
You can make your own music video with StarMaker lite and earn extra points with the app’s in-game judges for things like staying on pitch. After recording, you are also able to edit your vocal track with special effects that auto-tune your voice to make it pitch-perfect. Then, simply tap a button to share your videos with your friends and on the StarMaker community pages. One of the unique features of StarMaker lite is that you can make split-screen videos to sing along with another friend, but, unfortunately, larger collaborations of three or more singers aren’t supported just yet.
Conclusion
So there you go. I think this is more than enough to satisfy all your karaoke party need. If for some reason you need even more similar apps, I’ll share a link to the list that has the current top ones on the market.
