Why Europe is the next big opportunity for cannabis investors

While countries like Poland open up their markets for medical cannabis, companies like World High Life (NEX: LIFE) are preparing to dominate the marijuana sector in Europe

Medical marijuana is now available in Poland. It is imported by Spectrum Cannabis, the company which has obtained the appropriate consent of the Office for Registration of Medicinal Products. Medical marijuana is available only upon presentation of a prescription. It does not mean, however, that it will just be available in pharmacies. This change is part of an overall trend of legalization sweeping Europe.

After presenting the prescription to the pharmacy, the pharmacist will only order the indicated quantity from the wholesaler. Medical marijuana is to be used only to relieve pain. Some people having to deal with neurological diseases such as drug-resistant epilepsy, pain caused by cancer and multiple sclerosis can use medical marijuana.

Availability of medical marijuana in Poland

January 17, 2019 is the day from which one can redeem prescriptions for medical marijuana. This was possible thanks to the legal regulations from 2017, which opened the way to legal trade in medical marijuana in Poland.

This medical product made from cannabis will be available in Poland thanks to the Spectrum Cannabis company, which belongs to the Canadian group Canopy Growth Corp.

The price of medical marijuana, which will be prescribed by a doctor, is about 65 PLN per gram. Medical marijuana contains about 19% of THC and less than 1% of CBD.

A European trend

Spectrum Cannabis is part of the worldwide trend of cannabis companies expanding their operations to Europe. World High Life PLC (NEX: LIFE) is aiming to become the world’s leading CBD and medical cannabis player by the acquisition of the most promising UK and European companies. Their management team is experienced in the Canadian cannabis market, and now want to utilize their expertise in other markets.

WHL has recently moved to acquire UK’s leading CBD company Love Hemp Ltd. in a transaction involving all shares valued at 9 million GBP. Love Hemp produces a variety of CBD products such as sprays, vapes, oils, edibles, CBD-infused beverages, and cosmetics, and sells their products in 1,200 UK high street stores. Additionally, they have agreements with big companies such as Boots, Tesco, Superdrug and Sainsbury’s.

With Love Hemp, WHL plans to expand into other European markets, starting with Germany in 2020.
